Women arrested for beating up Mother-in-law

A woman was arrested for beating up her elderly mother-in-law in Karachi’s upscale Clifton neighbourhood The woman named Afshan was arrested after her husband filed a complaint against her at Boat Basin police station. She has been sent to jail on judicial remand. According to the investigation officer, the woman’s mother is also nominated in the case but she obtained pre-arrest bail from a court before the police could apprehend her. Bilques would provoke her daughter to mistreat her mother-in-law, the IO said quoting their domestic help. She instigated her daughter to the point of murdering the victim but the maid somehow managed to avert the murder. The police said the victim, 70, is widow. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrives in lahore

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has arrived in Lahore where he is likely to stay for three days in connection with the preparations of Senate polls During his stay in Lahore, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will hold important meetings with PPP lawmakers at the residence of Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood. An accountability court in Lahore has recorded the statement of another witness in money laundering case against Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz The accountability court conducted the hearing of the money laundering and Ramzan Sugar Mills cases against Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz. However, the lawyer of the accused, Amjad Pervaiz, did not appear in the hearing. The court was pleaded to adjourn the hearing which was rejected by the judge. Later, the court recorded testimony of a witness and adjourned the hearing till March 4. Moreover, the hearing of assets case was also adjourned without any proceeding as the judge was busy in the high court. The Supreme Court (SC) has wrapped up the bail petition of the close aide of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Moosa Khan A two-member bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam heard the bail petition of JUI-F leader Moosa Khan. During the hearing, Moosa Khan’s lawyer said that his client was a victim of political revenge and baseless allegations were levelled against him. He added that the said properties in the corruption reference belong to his mother. The prosecutor of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) argued that the property was purchased from a private person, whereas, Moosa Khan’s parents were not having enough resources to buy it. Justice Mushir Alam questioned the NAB prosecutor regarding the progress of proceedings on the corruption reference in the trial court. To this, the NAB prosecutor apprised the top court that 40 witnesses have been included in the reference and the Peshawar High Court (PHC) issued orders to complete the hearings.

NAB summons Maryam Nawaz in Jati Umra land case

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz in a Jati Umra land acquisition case. She has been asked to turn up before a three-member combined investigation team of the anti-corruption watchdog on March 2 at 11am. She will likely be quizzed about the case. The NAB Lahore has launched an investigation against the Sharif family for “illegally acquiring” hundreds of acres of land in Raiwind to include it in its Jati Umra residence. Last year in August, violence had erupted outside the bureau’s Lahore office as police personnel and workers of the PML-N clashed ahead of Maryam’s arrival there for a hearing in the land acquisition case. Many people, some police officials among them, were injured and some 50 were rounded up after police fired tear gas to disperse the activists. Saifullah Abro challenges rejection of nomination papers

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Saifullah Abro on Wednesday challenged the rejection of his nomination papers for the forthcoming Senate elections. He filed an appeal before the Sindh High Court, assailing its appellate tribunal’s decision that declared the acceptance of his papers by the returning officer (RO) as void. The PTI candidate said the tribunal handed the verdict without careful consideration of facts. He said he is eligible to get elected as a technocrat as he fullfils the criteria laid down for the Senate seat. A two-judge bench of the SHC is likely to hear his appeal later today. Saifullah Abro had filed nomination papers on a PTI ticket to contest the Senate election from Sindh on a technocrat seat. His nomination papers were approved by the returning officer but challenged in the appellate tribunal of the high court. As many as eight appeals were filed against the decisions of the returning officer over acceptance and rejection of the Senate nomination pa
