Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has arrived in Lahore where he is likely to stay for three days in connection with the preparations of Senate polls

During his stay in Lahore, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will hold important meetings with PPP lawmakers at the residence of Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood.

Moreover, he will also meet Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz and other leaders in Lahore.

Earlier in the day, PPP central leader and former premier Yousaf Raza Gillani met Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif at courtroom here to consult over the Senate election.

Gillani, who has been joint candidate of the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for senate seat from Islamabad, inquired about the health of Shehbaz Sharif in the meeting with the PML-N leader at courtroom number 5.

The former premier also consulted over the Senate election with Shehbaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders Ayaz Sadiq and Azam Nazeer Tarar in the courtroom. PML-N leaders Ameer Muqam, Maryam Aurangzeb and former Punjab governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood were also present in the court.

PML-N had announced to support People’s Party candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani in Senate elections after a meeting between PML-N senior vice-president Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Yousaf Raza Gillani to field a joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

Two former premiers including Raja Pervez Ashraf and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi acted as proposer and seconder in Yousaf Raza Gillani’s nomination papers for Senate election.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who is also leading the PDM, in a meeting with Gillani endorsed his support to the nomination of the former prime minister as joint candidate of the opposition for Islamabad’s senate seat.

Taliban declare war in Afghanistan over, call for peaceful relations with world

The spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban on Monday declared that the war in the country is over, saying that the group desires peaceful relations with the world. North Korea imported more than 1 million facial masks and 15,000 pairs of rubber gloves from China in July, shortly before declaring victory over Covid-19, Chinese trade showed on Saturday. Pyongyang last week declared victory over the coronavirus, ending a little-detailed fight against “fever” cases that had risen to 4.77 million. It has registered no new such cases since July 29. Still, China exported 1.23 million facial masks to North Korea in July, worth $44,307, surging from 17,000 the previous month, according to data released by Chinese customs. From January to July, the last month for which data is available, the North bought more than 11.93 million masks from China, data showed. Sindh govt seeks army's help in implementation of coronavirus SOPs

The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement.
