Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas shows improvement, remains in hospital

The health of Pakistan batting great Zaheer Abbas is improving but remains in a hospital in London, his wife said on Wednesday.

“Zaheer’s condition by the grace of Allah is improving but he is still in the hospital,” Zaheer’s wife told media.

To a question, Zaheer’s wife said the Pakistan Cricket Board was in contact with her, adding PCB chairman Ramiz Raja had talked to her to inquire about Zaheer’s health.

Known as Asian Bradman for his superb batting display, 74-year-old Zaheer was hospitalised due to deteriorating health in London last month.

The 78-Test veteran, who suffered from Covid-19 in 2021, again faced the same situation while travelling from Dubai to London in mid-June. After reaching London, he was taken to hospital in a critical condition and remained in the ICU for several days.

The Sialkot-born Zaheer, who played for Pakistan from 1969 to 1985 and acted as president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2015-16, suffered from back pain when he was in Karachi before leaving on June 1 for the UAE where he stayed for two weeks before leaving for London.

Western sanctions against Russia could cause the International Space Station to crash, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos warned on Saturday, calling for the punitive measures to be lifted. The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement. Monsoon rains add to Karachi’s woes, kill two youngsters

A powerful monsoon system formed in the Arabian Sea caused torrential downpours in various parts of Karachi Sunday evening, but it claimed the lives of two youngsters. According to the police, a woman and her three-month-old daughter fell into a flooded nullah in the Buffer Zone area while they were passing through on a motorbike.
