New on Sports Illustrated: One Week After Loss to Rutgers, Michigan State Upsets No. 13 Michigan

The Spartans' victory makes Mel Tucker only the program's second coach to win his debut vs. Michigan.

Michigan State football (1-1) pulled off a close upset over rival No. 13 Michigan (1-1) on Saturday,

snagging a 27-24 road victory and taking home the Paul Bunyan trophy. 

The Spartans were coming off a 38-27 loss to Rutgers last week, while the Wolverines had a commanding 49-24 victory over Minnesota. Coming into the matchup, MSU was a 22-point underdog. 

Michigan State receiver Ricky White led the way with 196 receiving yards against Michigan, becoming the only player with more single-game receiving yards in this rivalry series history is Sparty's Plaxico Burress (255 in 1999).

The Spartans had an early edge, tallying the first touchdown, and never lost the lead. While the two were neck-and-neck throughout the game, MSU ultimately outmuscled and outplayed the Wolverines, and the passing game gave them the edge. 

Spartans QB Rocky Lombardi went 17 for 32 for 323 yards, capitalizing on an average of 10.1 yards per pass compared to Michigan's 5.1.

Michigan State's stunning win makes Mel Tucker only the second Spartan football coach in the rivalry's history to win in his debut (the other was Nick Saban in 1995). Jim Harbaugh is now 3–3 against Michigan State in his six years in Ann Arbor.

Joint Opposition to move no-confidence motion against NA Speaker Asad Qaiser

The Opposition has decided to jointly move a no-confidence motion against National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, sources said Wednesday, after two days of ruckus in the Lower House. The development came during a meeting of Opposition party leaders in Islamabad, where they decided to form a committee that would draft a plan of action to move the no-confidence motion. Yesterday's proceedings in the NA marked the "darkest day for democracy in Pakistan's history," the Opposition leaders observed, according to the sources. "The Speaker has failed to fulfil his constitutional, legal, democratic, and parliamentary responsibilities [...] he is the protector of every parliament member, but [he has failed in his duties] and is not qualified to hold office anymore," they said. Former PM's close aide Shahzad Akbar's name placed on ECL

The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Both names were included in the ECL based on cases pertaining to a private housing scheme. The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, received a briefing from the Climate Change Ministry on the effects of climate change in the country. Lahore Qalandars defeated Peshawar Zalmi by four wickets in their first match of this year's Pakistan Super League (PSL) tournament at the National Stadium in Karachi on Sunday. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
