IMF forecasts Pakistan's growth rate at 4% in FY22

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released the World Economic Outlook Report. The IMF’s World Economic Outlook report predicts that Pakistan s economic growth, inflation and current account deficit targets will not be met this year.

According to the report, the economic growth rate is projected to be 4 percent against the target of 4.8 percent this year and 4.2 percent next year. The GDP growth was 5.6 percent in the last fiscal year.

According to the report, inflation in Pakistan is likely to remain in double digits of 11.2 percent this year while the government had set an annual target of average inflation of 8 percent.

In addition, the current account deficit will reach 5.3 percent of GDP, while the target was set at 0.7 percent. On the other hand, the current account deficit is expected to reach about $19 billion.

According to the IMF s World Economic Outlook report, the unemployment rate in Pakistan was 7.4 percent last year, compared to 7 percent this year and 6.7 percent next year.

According to the report, the Ukraine-Russia war has created a global humanitarian crisis, the conflict has slowed down the global economy, and has had a negative impact on global commodity prices, trade and financial resources.

North Korea imported more than 1 million facial masks and 15,000 pairs of rubber gloves from China in July, shortly before declaring victory over Covid-19, Chinese trade showed on Saturday. Western sanctions against Russia could cause the International Space Station to crash, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos warned on Saturday, calling for the punitive measures to be lifted. The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement. Monsoon rains add to Karachi’s woes, kill two youngsters

A powerful monsoon system formed in the Arabian Sea caused torrential downpours in various parts of Karachi Sunday evening, but it claimed the lives of two youngsters. According to the police, a woman and her three-month-old daughter fell into a flooded nullah in the Buffer Zone area while they were passing through on a motorbike. The woman was rescued in an unconscious state, while a search for her daughter was initiated.
