Karachi’s public transport to be converted into electric buses
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday vowed to convert Karachi’s public transport into electric buses.

Addressing a press conference here in Karachi, the science and technology minister said that efforts are underway to make Islamabad as the first-ever city of Pakistan to convert its public transport into electric vehicles in near future.

“There is no doubt that Karachi is facing issues of public transport and the present government will fix this problem soon,” he said, adding that the federal government will talk with the provincial government for converting Karachi’s transporting into electric vehicles.

Chaudhry noted that global warming and climate change are attributed over 25 percent to transport and thus concluded that shifting to electric mode of public transportation will be a good initiative towards environment protection.

Last month, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Hussain Chaudhry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Capital Development Authority to mark their interest in shifting public transport towards electric buses.

Chaudhry said talking to media that initially 30 electric buses will be run in the capital city which will be able to serve 48 thousand commuters across. He added that this will save 30 thousand barrels of fuel around the year.

The federal minister said the ideal rate to reap the benefits of shifting towards battery-powered buses will be to shift 40 percent of overall public transport to electronic buses in the first ten years.

He said that a designated three-wheeler mode of transportation will be introduced for female commuters in the city.

The Opposition has decided to jointly move a no-confidence motion against National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, sources said Wednesday, after two days of ruckus in the Lower House. The development came during a meeting of Opposition party leaders in Islamabad, where they decided to form a committee that would draft a plan of action to move the no-confidence motion. Former PM's close aide Shahzad Akbar's name placed on ECL

The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Both names were included in the ECL based on cases pertaining to a private housing scheme. The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, received a briefing from the Climate Change Ministry on the effects of climate change in the country. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
