Ground-breaking of Karachi’s Green Line BRT extension project performed
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar and Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Saturday performed the groundbreaking of the extension project of Karachi’s Green Line BRT.

Taking to Twitter, the federal minister said that the Green Line extension project will start from Mazar-e- Quaid and will end at Tower, Karachi.

“The BRT extension project would be completed by 2022,” he said.

The minister also announced that the Green Line Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) project will be inaugurated between July and September next year.

Under the BRT extension project (GL-20), an 18-kilometer common corridor will be constructed at a cost of 2.2 billion rupees. The project will be completed in 2022.

Asad Umar also inaugurated the development project of GL-16 at Numaish Chowrangi underpass along with Governor Sindh Imran Ismail.

Last week, Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited (SIDCL) approved the purchase of buses for the Green Line BRT.

According to the tender, 80 vehicles would be purchased at a cost of Rs 3 billion.

It is to be noted that the BRT Green Line project with intersections has a 24 km long route, which includes 12.7 km elevated, 10.9 km at grade, and 422 meters underground route, and has 25 stations.

The phase-II common corridor from Gurumandir up to Municipal Park with a length of 2.5 km has two underpasses at M.A Jinnah Road.

The state-of-art underground bus terminal with a parking facility and the commercial mezzanine floor has been constructed at Numaish.

The construction work on Phase-I was started in 2016.

The spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban on Monday declared that the war in the country is over, saying that the group desires peaceful relations with the world. Sindh govt seeks army's help in implementation of coronavirus SOPs

The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. North Korea imported more than 1 million facial masks and 15,000 pairs of rubber gloves from China in July, shortly before declaring victory over Covid-19, Chinese trade showed on Saturday. Pyongyang last week declared victory over the coronavirus, ending a little-detailed fight against “fever” cases that had risen to 4.77 million. It has registered no new such cases since July 29. Still, China exported 1.23 million facial masks to North Korea in July, worth $44,307, surging from 17,000 the previous month, according to data released by Chinese customs. From January to July, the last month for which data is available, the North bought more than 11.93 million masks from China, data showed. The euro , seen as vulnerable to a Federal Reserve hike especially if European rate rises lag, dropped 0.4% on Thursday and was steady in Asia at $1.1297.
