Shafqat Mehmood shares update related to Cambridge exams

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood on Sunday evening shared some important updates related to the Cambridge Assessment International Education.

Taking to Twitter, the minister posted a notification — originally shared by the British Council on Facebook — according to which Cambridge International Exams will go ahead as per the schedule.

"Cambridge and the British Council will make sure all SOPs are very strictly followed," the notification read.

"If students wish, they can switch to Oct/Nov exams instead for the same fee."

According to the notification, the CAIE also confirmed that it will not use school-assessed grades for the June 2021 series.

Last month, CAIE had confirmed that all Cambridge International AS & A Level exams will be held as per the current timetable, starting from 26 April 2021, as agreed with the government of Pakistan.

In this regard, Cambridge International’s Country Director Pakistan Uzma Yousuf had said: "We have been working closely with the federal and provincial governments, who have given us extensive support and advice, to ensure we run exams safely, and securely for our students."

"If a student is not comfortable taking their exams in the May/June 2021 series they can withdraw their entries, and sit any future exam series without any additional financial burden.”

It is pertinent to mention that Cambridge had introduced extensive extra measures in January this year to support schools and students with taking exams in the May/June 2021 series.

These included adjustments to aspects of assessments and exemptions from components that are difficult to run during the pandemic.

Western sanctions against Russia could cause the International Space Station to crash, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos warned on Saturday, calling for the punitive measures to be lifted. Sindh govt seeks army's help in implementation of coronavirus SOPs

The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. On the other hand, Sindh information ministry Nasir Hussain Shah has warned that the provincial government will impose a lockdown if the situation turns alarming in Sindh. Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement. Monsoon rains add to Karachi’s woes, kill two youngsters

A powerful monsoon system formed in the Arabian Sea caused torrential downpours in various parts of Karachi Sunday evening, but it claimed the lives of two youngsters. According to the police, a woman and her three-month-old daughter fell into a flooded nullah in the Buffer Zone area while they were passing through on a motorbike. The woman was rescued in an unconscious state, while a search for her daughter was initiated.
