Sindh CM says not taken into confidence over talks with banned organisation

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday said that the federal government did not take the provinces into confidence over ongoing talks with the defunct Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

The chief minister was speaking to the media in Islamabad where he appeared for a hearing at the National Accountability Bureau office on Monday.

CM Shah said the issue started five to six days ago, but the provinces were not taken into confidence by the Centre. "We can find a solution if stakeholders are in confidence," he said.

He was asked regarding the Lahore situation where law enforcers were taken hostage by the banned TLP in an attack on a police station.

The hostages, however, were released after negotiations were held with the religiopolitical group by the Punjab government.

Shah said he was unaware of the talks and only came to know about it at sehri.

"I don't know what the government is going to offer to the religious party. I can only suggest that it should not be something which is not possible," the CM said.

Shah said his advice to the government would be to not look for short term goals.

When asked about the strike call by religious leaders against the Lahore incident, Shah said the government will not stop peaceful protests. "If someone wants to shut their business and transport, they can do so," he said.

"We are in contact with the relevant people."

He said that the authorities will take measures if a law and order situation is created.

North Korea imported more than 1 million facial masks and 15,000 pairs of rubber gloves from China in July, shortly before declaring victory over Covid-19, Chinese trade showed on Saturday. Pyongyang last week declared victory over the coronavirus, ending a little-detailed fight against “fever” cases that had risen to 4.77 million. It has registered no new such cases since July 29. Still, China exported 1.23 million facial masks to North Korea in July, worth $44,307, surging from 17,000 the previous month, according to data released by Chinese customs. From January to July, the last month for which data is available, the North bought more than 11.93 million masks from China, data showed. Sindh govt seeks army's help in implementation of coronavirus SOPs

The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Monsoon rains add to Karachi’s woes, kill two youngsters

A powerful monsoon system formed in the Arabian Sea caused torrential downpours in various parts of Karachi Sunday evening, but it claimed the lives of two youngsters. According to the police, a woman and her three-month-old daughter fell into a flooded nullah in the Buffer Zone area while they were passing through on a motorbike. The woman was rescued in an unconscious state, while a search for her daughter was initiated.
