Private schools to provide free tuition for pupils whose parents died of covid19
Private school associations of Karachi have announced on Saturday free schooling up to matriculation for students who have lost their parents COVID-19.

According to the details, representatives of private schools who jointly held a press conference in Karachi today announced free tuition for pupils whose parents died due to coronavirus.

Furthermore, the associations have claimed that they will ensure that all schools must follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) advised by the government.

An official from one of the representative groups, Shahzad Akhtar, while reiterating free tuition announcement, said that those parents who have not been able to pay the school fees for the past seven months will be allowed easy instalments.

Akhtar urged the parents who could afford to pay the fee upfront to do so.

Another representative, Haider Ali, in his media address said that private schools endorse the 76-point SOPs laid out for the schools’ management and that they patiently await the SOPs for parents who send their children to schools.

He asserted that the children will be safe in schools and that the school staff will ensure social distancing amongst the kids, adding that the staff training to ensure SOPs is underway.

Ali said that school canteens will remain closed and the children will have to bring their lunch and water bottles from home.

Another representative, Syed Tariq Shah, noteddd that without the transfer certificates, no school will extend admissions to children in their schools, indicating the likely step by parents to default on seven-month fees and get their children admissions elsewhere.

Shah said that the kids with COVID-19 symptoms will be sent home without being marked absent.

Petrol may go up by Rs25, HSD by Rs40

The federal government is mulling over a plan to cut subsidies on petroleum products in phases -- Rs25 per litre on petrol and Rs40 per litre on high speed diesel (HSD) in the first one -- in a bid to reduce the volume of the mounting price differential claims. The prices of petrol and high speed diesel (HSD) will jump up to Rs195 per litre and Rs230 per litre respectively, if the federal government withdraws all the subsidies on them at once. The subsidies on petroleum products continue to swell because of higher global oil prices and depreciation of the local currency against the US dollar that may lead to a higher budget deficit. In addition, the government is also facing problems of balance of payment and wants to avail the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout package. Sources said that government is currently giving a subsidy of Rs29.60 per litre on petrol. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has filed two FIRs against Jahangir Tareen and two other family members in sugar scandal and money laundering charges, on Wednesday. FIA Lahore registered cases against CEO of JWD Sugar Mills, Jahangir Tareen, his son Ali Tareen and son-in-law in the sugar scam. “Over three billion rupees money laundering made by showing investment in a closed factory,” according to the FIR. The investigation agency has also charged Tareen and others for illegal hoarding of sugar, misappropriation and cheating in the FIR. CEO of JWD Sugar Mills in an act of forgery transferred 3.14 billion rupees to a closed company, the FIR read. “In year 2011-12 over three billion rupees were transferred to Farooqi Pulp Milk Ltd,” according to the case.
