Pakistan Army will deploy QRF for AJK elections security: ISPR

The military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday that Pakistan Army will deploy Quick Reaction Force (QRF) for the security of elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) under Article 245.

The ISPR said that the AJK election commission has requested the Pakistan Army to provide a secure environment during Legislative Assembly’s polls on July 25. It added that the troops will deploy QRF from July 22 to 26 as per Article 245 of the Constitution.

According to the statement, AJK police assisted by law enforcement agencies (LEAs) from other provinces and Civil Armed Forces including Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) will be employed for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the polls.

On July 12, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government will ensure transparent elections in AJK.

He had said that PM Imran Khan pledged to organise transparent and fair elections in AJK and PTI government guarantees to conduct the polls in a free, fair and impartial manner. The interior minister had said that the government will prove to conduct transparent polls for the first time in history.

Rashed had said that those afraid of facing a defeat are consistently levelling baseless allegations. The opposition parties did not appear whenever they are invited to deliberate on electoral reforms.

Regarding the security arrangements, he said that 7,200 personnel of Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) will be deployed during AJK polls on July 25 following the request of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban on Monday declared that the war in the country is over, saying that the group desires peaceful relations with the world. Western sanctions against Russia could cause the International Space Station to crash, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos warned on Saturday, calling for the punitive measures to be lifted. Pakistan Army continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi: ISPR

Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement. The Army personnel were also shifting vehicles trapped in rainwater to safe locations and removing other obstacles from the major thoroughfares in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city. The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. President Dr Arif Alvi Thursday signed the Election (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which had earlier been passed by the Parliament and asked opposing voices not to be afraid of “simple” electronic voting machines (EVMs) which he hoped would help in holding a fair election and bringing an end to rigging. “People will have to trust it.
