Pakistan wants strong ties with US: FM Qureshi
Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan wants strong ties with the United States (US).Addressing the session of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, FM Qureshi said both Pakistan and the US have the ingredient to build a more substantive and broad-based relationship between the two countries, reported Radio Pakistan.

The FM said Pakistan wants to leverage its connectivity infrastructure including China Pakistan Economic Corridor to enhance regional trade and economic integration.
The foreign minister said Pakistan and the US came together to decimate al Qaida core leadership and architecture. He said both remain an important partner and Pakistan, sitting at the crossroads of South and Central Asia, is a market of over 220 million people.

He said Pakistan has shifted its focus from geo-politics to geo-economics and can work with the US through the development Finance cooperation to general economic activity on Pakistan and Afghanistan border which will help the war-hit-country Afghanistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said an economically strong Pakistan can play a vital role for prosperity in the region that has suffered through 40 years of war in Afghanistan.

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan has warned the world that Indian illegal actions would not silence Kashmiris from the just struggle to self-determination.

Earlier, talking to US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Shah Mahmood Qureshi had reiterated Pakistan’s continued support for the establishment of a broad-based and inclusive government in Kabul.

Discussing the evolving situation in Afghanistan, the two leaders had agreed to work together for a peaceful and inclusive political settlement in Afghanistan.

Pyongyang last week declared victory over the coronavirus, ending a little-detailed fight against “fever” cases that had risen to 4.77 million. It has registered no new such cases since July 29. Still, China exported 1.23 million facial masks to North Korea in July, worth $44,307, surging from 17,000 the previous month, according to data released by Chinese customs. Western sanctions against Russia could cause the International Space Station to crash, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos warned on Saturday, calling for the punitive measures to be lifted. The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. Monsoon rains add to Karachi’s woes, kill two youngsters

A powerful monsoon system formed in the Arabian Sea caused torrential downpours in various parts of Karachi Sunday evening, but it claimed the lives of two youngsters. According to the police, a woman and her three-month-old daughter fell into a flooded nullah in the Buffer Zone area while they were passing through on a motorbike. The woman was rescued in an unconscious state, while a search for her daughter was initiated.
