Plea filed in IHC to avoid imposition of martial law

As the political situation in the country takes a critical turn, a plea has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking to avoid the imposition of martial law in the country.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had instructed National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser to hold the voting on the no-confidence motion today, but he is yet to allow the lawmakers to vote on the move against the premier.

According to media, if the top court's order is not followed somewhere, the high court of that particular jurisdiction takes notice of the situation.

"Does the prime minister have the power to remove the army chief without substantial reasoning [...] the Supreme Court, in its order, had written that any steps of the premier will be in line with the court's decision," the plea filed by advocate Adnan Iqbal said.

"...can the prime minister remove the army chief to meet his political ends?" the plea asked.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan, has refuted reports of him dismissing Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

On the other hand, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has filed a plea in the top court against the government for not following the apex court's orders — and the SC is scheduled to hear the case at 12:05am.

Six more die in rain-related incidents in Karachi

At least six people lost their lives in rain-related incidents on Friday as heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Karachi, bringing up the toll in three days to 14. Following a rain forecast, different areas of the port city continued to receive moderate to heavy showers under the influence of a monsoon system that is present over Karachi. Four soldiers martyred in gun battle with terrorists in North Waziristan: ISPR

Four soldiers were martyred in North Waziristan's Hassan Khel area during an exchange of fire with terrorists who attempted to infiltrate into Pakistan from Afghanistan in the night between March 23 and March 24, the military's media affairs wing said on Thursday. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a group of terrorists tried to infiltrate into Pakistan at midnight, but their attempt was foiled due to the "alertness and timely response of army troops". The terrorists, however, retaliated by opening fire, the statement said, adding that the soldiers "reciprocated in a befitting manner". The Opposition has decided to jointly move a no-confidence motion against National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, sources said Wednesday, after two days of ruckus in the Lower House. The development came during a meeting of Opposition party leaders in Islamabad, where they decided to form a committee that would draft a plan of action to move the no-confidence motion. Yesterday's proceedings in the NA marked the "darkest day for democracy in Pakistan's history," the Opposition leaders observed, according to the sources. Former PM's close aide Shahzad Akbar's name placed on ECL

The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Saudi authorities have released a princess and her daughter who had been held without charge for nearly three years in the capital, a human rights group said on Saturday. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
