Fuel prices likely to go up from Jan 1
The fuel prices are likely to go up in the country from January 01, 2020, after Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has recommended a hike in prices.

According to sources, the petrol prices from January 01 are likely to be increased by Rs 2.76 per litre while diesel will go up by Rs 3.12 per litre.

The Ogra has conveyed a summary to the petroleum division for changes in fuel prices for 15 days from January 01. However, a final decision in this regard will be made by the petroleum division after consultation with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

On December 15, Pakistan’s oil regulatory body announced an increase of Rs3 per litre on petrol, which now sell at Rs103.69 per litre, in its bimonthly petroleum product pricing exercise.

Prices of Hi-speed diesel, after Rs3 per litre hike, now sold at 108.44 per litre while other products such as Kerosene oil saw Rs5 per litre jump in retail.

The lowest surge was noted in Low-speed diesel with Rs2 per litre as it is sold for Rs67.86 per litre acorss Pakistan.

It may be noted that these new prices are applicable from Dec 16 onwards and will remain the same for the rest of the year.

North Korea imported more than 1 million facial masks and 15,000 pairs of rubber gloves from China in July, shortly before declaring victory over Covid-19, Chinese trade showed on Saturday. Pyongyang last week declared victory over the coronavirus, ending a little-detailed fight against “fever” cases that had risen to 4.77 million. It has registered no new such cases since July 29. Still, China exported 1.23 million facial masks to North Korea in July, worth $44,307, surging from 17,000 the previous month, according to data released by Chinese customs. Taliban declare war in Afghanistan over, call for peaceful relations with world

The spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban on Monday declared that the war in the country is over, saying that the group desires peaceful relations with the world. The statement comes a day after the Afghan Taliban entered Kabul as President Ashraf Ghani left the country, saying he wanted avoid bloodshed and conflict. The group respected women's and minorities' rights and freedom of expression within Sharia law, Spokesperson Mohammad Naeem added. Western sanctions against Russia could cause the International Space Station to crash, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos warned on Saturday, calling for the punitive measures to be lifted. According to Dmitry Rogozin, the sanctions, some of which predate Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, could disrupt the operation of Russian spacecraft servicing the ISS. Pakistan Army continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi: ISPR

Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement. The Army personnel were also shifting vehicles trapped in rainwater to safe locations and removing other obstacles from the major thoroughfares in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city. Sindh govt seeks army's help in implementation of coronavirus SOPs

The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. On the other hand, Sindh information ministry Nasir Hussain Shah has warned that the provincial government will impose a lockdown if the situation turns alarming in Sindh. President Alvi signs EVM bill passed by Parliament

President Dr Arif Alvi Thursday signed the Election (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which had earlier been passed by the Parliament and asked opposing voices not to be afraid of “simple” electronic voting machines (EVMs) which he hoped would help in holding a fair election and bringing an end to rigging. “People will have to trust it. It involves no advancement. It is too simple. The country achieves progress by adopting new things,” the president said while addressing a ceremony. Passed by the Parliament, the bill provides for holding of the next general election through the EVM as well as granting the right of vote to the overseas Pakistanis through i-voting.
