covid19:1,050 new cases and 37 deaths reported countrywide in last 24 hours

Pakistan reported 1,050 cases of coronavirus on Sunday, with 37 people losing their lives over the past 24 hours.

The positivity ratio stands at 2.55%.

Out of the 37 who died, 17 people who succumbed to the virus breathed their last on ventilators, as per data from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

The new infections have caused the total number of active cases in Pakistan to surge to 33,972 . Pakistan tested 41,065 people for the infection.

So far, 892,319 people have recovered from the infection across Pakistan, as per the NCOC. In Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan, there are no patients on ventilators.

The total caseload of the infection has surged to 948,268 (AJK 19,934, Balochistan 26,585, GB 5,803, ICT 82,344, KP 136,973, Punjab 344,970, Sindh 331,659) while the total number of deaths has risen to 21,977.

As per the NCOC, 27 people lost their lives on Friday from the infection.

The last lowest daily COVID-19 death toll was recorded by the country on March 21 after 20 people died from the infection.

Former PM's close aide Shahzad Akbar's name placed on ECL

The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Both names were included in the ECL based on cases pertaining to a private housing scheme. The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, received a briefing from the Climate Change Ministry on the effects of climate change in the country. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
