Pakistan wants to boost strategic ties with UK: COAS Bajwa

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Christian Turner on Friday called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa here at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

According to the military’s media wing, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation including the recent developments in Afghan peace process and collaboration in fight against COVID-19 were discussed in the meeting.

During the meeting, the army chief said, “Pakistan values UK’s balanced role in global and regional affairs and we look forward to optimize strategic potential of our relationship based on convergences.”

The visiting dignitary acknowledged Pakistan’s continuous efforts for peace and stability in the region and pledged to further enhance bilateral relations between both the countries, said ISPR.

Earlier on February 12, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Christian Turner had called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters (GHQ).

According to the military’s media wing, matters of mutual interest, the Afghan peace process, overall security situation, and other issues had been discussed in the meeting.

During the meeting, the army chief had thanked the British government for its support to Pakistan in fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Both names were included in the ECL based on cases pertaining to a private housing scheme. The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, received a briefing from the Climate Change Ministry on the effects of climate change in the country. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
