Supreme Court restricts sale, transfer and allotment of Railways land

The Supreme Court in a ruling in the encroachment case said that not an inch of the railway land would be allowed to be sold.

The Supreme Court in an order restricted the sale, transfer and allotment of any of the Pakistan Railways lands.

The court in a written order after hearing of the case expressed its concern over an alleged plan to sell the railways land in Sindh.

“The bench was informed that the federal government was reportedly planning to sell railway lands in Sindh and a meeting to this effect was held at the Governor House in Karachi,” the court observed.

The bench noted that the government was approaching the court for removal of encroachments on its land, but on the other hand it seemed plans are under consideration to sell the railway land.

The court said that not an inch of the railway land would be allowed to be sold and the apex court would strike down any such move.

The court while ordered the federal government to submit a detailed report on the train crash in Ghotki, observed that the Pakistan Railways affairs were in unprofessional hands. The bench asked the government to take measures to ensure safety of passengers.

The bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed also took exception to a statement of Railways Minister after the recent Ghotki train accident.

The government should give urgent attention to the dilapidated track from Khanpur to Ghotki and Sukkur to Karachi.

The Opposition has decided to jointly move a no-confidence motion against National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, sources said Wednesday, after two days of ruckus in the Lower House. Former PM's close aide Shahzad Akbar's name placed on ECL

The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Both names were included in the ECL based on cases pertaining to a private housing scheme. The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, received a briefing from the Climate Change Ministry on the effects of climate change in the country. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
