WB announces $12mn grant for homeless in tribal districts
The World Bank on Friday announced $12 million additional grant for homeless people in tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The grant agreement during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Islamabad today.

Addressing the ceremony, the Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Makhdum Khusro Bakhtiar thanked the WB for the additional grant for the homeless people. He maintained that the grant will be spent on homeless people, children’s health and on service delivery.

Earlier on December 9, the World Bank had approved a $300 million grant for two projects in Pakistan, including the Sindh Resilience Project and Solid Waste Emergency and Efficiency Project.

The bank’s Board of Executive Directors had approved the $200 million Sindh Resilience Project Additional Financing and $100 million Solid Waste Emergency and Efficiency Project (SWEEP).

Najy Benhassine, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan in a statement had said: “Building resilience to natural disasters and health emergencies is an important and urgent agenda in Pakistan, that will help save lives and protect the economy.”

The spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban on Monday declared that the war in the country is over, saying that the group desires peaceful relations with the world. North Korea imported Chinese masks before declaring Covid victory

North Korea imported more than 1 million facial masks and 15,000 pairs of rubber gloves from China in July, shortly before declaring victory over Covid-19, Chinese trade showed on Saturday. Pyongyang last week declared victory over the coronavirus, ending a little-detailed fight against “fever” cases that had risen to 4.77 million. It has registered no new such cases since July 29. Still, China exported 1.23 million facial masks to North Korea in July, worth $44,307, surging from 17,000 the previous month, according to data released by Chinese customs. From January to July, the last month for which data is available, the North bought more than 11.93 million masks from China, data showed. North Korea did not import any Covid-19 prevention and control products from China in May, the data showed. Sindh govt seeks army's help in implementation of coronavirus SOPs

The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. Pakistan Army continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi: ISPR

Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement. The Army personnel were also shifting vehicles trapped in rainwater to safe locations and removing other obstacles from the major thoroughfares in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city.
