ECP issued the list of senate candidates
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday issued a final list of candidates contesting the Senate elections from the federal capital

Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh of the ruling PTI and former premier Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, a joint candidate of the PDM, are vying for a general seat from Islamabad whilst PTI’s Fauzia Arshad and Farzana Kausar are in the run for a reserved seat for women.

Polling for the Senate elections will be held on the third of next month. It is pertinent to mention here that there will be no polling for the 11 Senate seats from Punjab as all candidates for seven general and two seats each reserved for women and technocrats have been elected unopposed after disqualification or withdrawal of papers by other contestants.

The PTI and PML-N bagged five seats each while one has gone to the PML-Quaid.

Sources said that Punjab Assembly speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi played a key role in the seat adjustments for the Senate election. Pervaiz Elahi contacted the leadership of the PPP and PML-N for the seat adjustments.

Taliban declare war in Afghanistan over, call for peaceful relations with world

The spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban on Monday declared that the war in the country is over, saying that the group desires peaceful relations with the world. The statement comes a day after the Afghan Taliban entered Kabul as President Ashraf Ghani left the country, saying he wanted avoid bloodshed and conflict. North Korea imported Chinese masks before declaring Covid victory

North Korea imported more than 1 million facial masks and 15,000 pairs of rubber gloves from China in July, shortly before declaring victory over Covid-19, Chinese trade showed on Saturday. Pyongyang last week declared victory over the coronavirus, ending a little-detailed fight against “fever” cases that had risen to 4.77 million. It has registered no new such cases since July 29. Still, China exported 1.23 million facial masks to North Korea in July, worth $44,307, surging from 17,000 the previous month, according to data released by Chinese customs. From January to July, the last month for which data is available, the North bought more than 11.93 million masks from China, data showed. North Korea did not import any Covid-19 prevention and control products from China in May, the data showed. Sindh govt seeks army's help in implementation of coronavirus SOPs

The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. US President Joe Biden urged calm between Israel and Gaza on Saturday and affirmed his support for a two-state solution in his first phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas since taking office, the official Palestinian news agency said. Pakistan Army continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi: ISPR

Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement. The Army personnel were also shifting vehicles trapped in rainwater to safe locations and removing other obstacles from the major thoroughfares in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city.
