Indian media spreading lies about Pak-Afghan border situation: Sheikh Rasheed

Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Wednesday said that the India media is spreading lies about the situation at the Pak-Afghan border.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he rejected the Indian propaganda, saying there is complete peace and tranquility at the Torkham and Chaman borders. He maintained that the border crossings with Afghanistan are open for movement, trade and transit visa facility.

"Interior Ministry offices are open 24 hours a day," Rasheed said, adding: "Immigration and FIA officials, besides others .are present at all airports and borders."

Repatriation of Pakistanis

Speaking of Pakistani nationals, he said that the government has decided to evacuate them from Afghanistan within two days.

He said 613 Pakistanis have so far been brought back from Afghanistan since August 14, adding that the evacuation mission will be completed by Friday.

Three buses with over 100 Pakistanis, including women and children, on board were cleared early this morning at the Torkham border, the interior minister added.

Facilitation of foreigners

The minister said that Pakistan had evacuated around 900 foreign officials and diplomats from Afghanistan, and added that a special cell had been established in the interior ministry which was functioning 24 hours.

The interior minister said immigration officials have been instructed to provide visas on arrival to diplomats and foreign media.

"No Afghan refugees are coming to Pakistan. We are giving transit visas to all diplomats, media and staff of other institutions," he said.

Responding to a question, the interior minister said that neither Pakistan will interfere in Afghanistan nor will it allow anyone in Pakistan.

The interior minister expressed the confidence that the situation will improve in Afghanistan.

Six more die in rain-related incidents in Karachi

At least six people lost their lives in rain-related incidents on Friday as heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Karachi, bringing up the toll in three days to 14. Following a rain forecast, different areas of the port city continued to receive moderate to heavy showers under the influence of a monsoon system that is present over Karachi. The most rain was recorded in the Gulshan-e-Hadeed neighbourhood, which received 94.7mm of rain during two spells. Four soldiers martyred in gun battle with terrorists in North Waziristan: ISPR

Four soldiers were martyred in North Waziristan's Hassan Khel area during an exchange of fire with terrorists who attempted to infiltrate into Pakistan from Afghanistan in the night between March 23 and March 24, the military's media affairs wing said on Thursday. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a group of terrorists tried to infiltrate into Pakistan at midnight, but their attempt was foiled due to the "alertness and timely response of army troops". The terrorists, however, retaliated by opening fire, the statement said, adding that the soldiers "reciprocated in a befitting manner". Former PM's close aide Shahzad Akbar's name placed on ECL

The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Saudi authorities have released a princess and her daughter who had been held without charge for nearly three years in the capital, a human rights group said on Saturday. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
