Soldier martyred in exchange of fire with terrorists at checkpost in South Waziristan
A Pakistan Army soldier was martyred during an exchange of fire with terrorists at a checkpost in the South Waziristan district, the military's media affairs wing said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that officials at the checkpost in the Kanniguram area of the district "observed and engaged" the terrorists.

During the "intense exchange of fire", one of the terrorists was killed while a soldier, 42-year-old Naib Subedar Sonay Zai, was critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds, the statement added.

The martyred soldier hailed from Dera Ismail Khan.

The army statement further said that a search of the area "is in progress" to eliminate any remaining terrorists.

"Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve," it added.

At least two soldiers have been martyred in as many terrorist attacks in South Waziristan this month.

In the first attack, a soldier was martyred and another injured in an attack on a checkpost in the Zangara area of the district on August 1.

In the second attack that occurred last week, a soldier was martyred after terrorists opened fire upon troops that had been dispatched by a military post in Sararogha after suspicious movements were observed in its area of responsibility.

Due to the effective response of the troops, one terrorist was killed and another was injured and apprehended, the ISPR had said at the time.

During the exchange of fire, Naik Zia ud Din was critically injured and embraced martyrdom, the ISPR had said.

Six more die in rain-related incidents in Karachi

At least six people lost their lives in rain-related incidents on Friday as heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Karachi, bringing up the toll in three days to 14. Four soldiers were martyred in North Waziristan's Hassan Khel area during an exchange of fire with terrorists who attempted to infiltrate into Pakistan from Afghanistan in the night between March 23 and March 24, the military's media affairs wing said on Thursday. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a group of terrorists tried to infiltrate into Pakistan at midnight, but their attempt was foiled due to the "alertness and timely response of army troops". The terrorists, however, retaliated by opening fire, the statement said, adding that the soldiers "reciprocated in a befitting manner". The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Saudi authorities have released a princess and her daughter who had been held without charge for nearly three years in the capital, a human rights group said on Saturday. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
