COAS Gen Bajwa appreciates army’s operational readiness in view of threats

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday chaired the 241st Corps Commanders’ Conference held at the General Headquarters.

According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the conference, the participants took a comprehensive review of the global, regional, and domestic security environment with a particular focus on the situation along the borders, especially the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary as well as the Pakistan-Afghan Border.

The forum was apprised on evolving operational imperatives and corresponding strategy to meet upcoming challenges. The COAS expressed satisfaction over the Army’s operational readiness in view of the emerging security threats.

While reviewing the recent developments in the Afghan peace process and its attendant effects on the security situation, especially along the Pak-Afghan border, the forum reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for regional peace and stability. Taking serious note of the recent cross-border firing incidents from Afghanistan and regrouping of terrorist leadership/outfits across, the forum expressed hope that Afghanistan's soil will not be used against Pakistan.

In light of the emerging regional security situation, Pakistan has taken effective border control/management measures and the same is expected from Afghanistan to deny any space to spoilers of peace, the forum reiterated.

The forum also reviewed the situation in newly-merged districts of KP (erstwhile FATA) and Balochistan and stressed the fast-paced socio-economic development of these areas to capitalise on the hard-earned peace to bring enduring stability.

The COAS appreciated formations for all-out support to civil administration amidst the ongoing third wave of COVID-19 that has contributed to bringing a significant reduction in the spread of the pandemic and controlling its adverse effects.

North Korea imported more than 1 million facial masks and 15,000 pairs of rubber gloves from China in July, shortly before declaring victory over Covid-19, Chinese trade showed on Saturday. Pyongyang last week declared victory over the coronavirus, ending a little-detailed fight against “fever” cases that had risen to 4.77 million. It has registered no new such cases since July 29. Still, China exported 1.23 million facial masks to North Korea in July, worth $44,307, surging from 17,000 the previous month, according to data released by Chinese customs. Sanctions could cause space station to crash: Roscosmos

Western sanctions against Russia could cause the International Space Station to crash, the head of Russian space agency Roscosmos warned on Saturday, calling for the punitive measures to be lifted. According to Dmitry Rogozin, the sanctions, some of which predate Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, could disrupt the operation of Russian spacecraft servicing the ISS. Sindh govt seeks army's help in implementation of coronavirus SOPs

The government of Sindh has sought help from the Pakistan Army in implementing coronavirus SOPs as cases of the virus surge across the country. The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Interior, seeking the army's help for the civil administration under Article 245 of the Constitution. Sindh government said it would inform the interior ministry about details regarding troop employment and equipment after holding consultations over the matter. Pakistan Army continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi: ISPR

Pakistan Army on Monday continued its relief and rescue operation in Karachi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Army personnel removed rainwater from underpasses located at Golimar, Golimar and KPT, adding that these underpasses have been reopened for traffic. However, the dewatering process was continued in various areas inundated with rainwater, read the statement. The Army personnel were also shifting vehicles trapped in rainwater to safe locations and removing other obstacles from the major thoroughfares in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city. Monsoon rains add to Karachi’s woes, kill two youngsters

A powerful monsoon system formed in the Arabian Sea caused torrential downpours in various parts of Karachi Sunday evening, but it claimed the lives of two youngsters. According to the police, a woman and her three-month-old daughter fell into a flooded nullah in the Buffer Zone area while they were passing through on a motorbike. The woman was rescued in an unconscious state, while a search for her daughter was initiated.
