Karachi experiences power outage amid hot and humid weather
Large swathes of Karachi experienced power outage amid hot and humid weather after a 220kv high-tension electricity supply line tripped on Saturday.

Sources in K-Electric said power supply to as many as 30 grid stations got suspended due to the tripping of the high-tension line, leaving half the metropolis without electricity.

The areas that faced the power outage included New Karachi, Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Buffer Zone, Shadman, Sir Syed Town, Nagan Chowrangi, FB Area and North Nazimabad.

The city’s sole power distributor confirmed in a Twitter statement that power supply to “parts of Karachi has been interrupted due to a tripping of KE’s 220 kV high tension line.”

“Due to this, supply to associated grids has been affected,” the power distribution company added.

“Restoration efforts have already begun and are expected to be completed within one hour. Availability of generation supply is enabling restoration to progress swiftly.”


Various areas of the metropolis have been facing unannounced power cuts lately. Even the localities exempted from load-shedding are being subjected to hours-long power cuts.

Former PM's close aide Shahzad Akbar's name placed on ECL

The federal cabinet amended the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Interior Ministry, removing 22 names from the no-fly list and adding 10 people to it, while giving a one-time permission to three people to leave the country. Those added to the ECL included Shahzad Akbar, who served as adviser on interior and accountability to former prime minister Imran Khan, and Ziaul Mustafa Naseem. Both names were included in the ECL based on cases pertaining to a private housing scheme. The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, received a briefing from the Climate Change Ministry on the effects of climate change in the country. Pakistan rejects illegal grant of IOK domicile certificates to Indians

Pakistan has categorically rejected the grant of domicile certificates of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) by the Indian authorities to reportedly 25,000 Indian nationals. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the certificates issued to non-Kashmiris including, among others, the Indian government officials under “Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate (Procedure), 2020” are illegal, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and International law including the 4th Geneva Convention.
